La Cienega Design Quarter hosted its 11th annual Legends of La Cienega second week of May. It’s one of those events we look forward to every year, and this year was no exception!

There were 69 sessions at Legends 2019 that involved discussing, celebrating, and engaging with fellow participants on all things design! It was great to hear the wisdom of Bunny WilliamsSuzanne RheinsteinEmily SummersSuzanne Kasler,Margot Shaw and catch up with our design friends from around the country.

Some of the fun things about Legends are the window displays of the member LCDQ shops and showrooms, created by designers from around the world. This year, our friend Cathy Austin won the competition, with her window display honoring her favorite design icon, the late Paris-based designer Alberto Pinto. Kudos to Cathy!

It was an eventful week, but we weren’t done just yet!

Aside from participating in keynote presentations, luncheons, and parties hosted by brimming showrooms, we made sure to stop by our favorite shops and showrooms to see their new pieces and get some inspiration.

The Harbinger Showroom never disappoints.

A stop at MJ Atelier to see their creative hand-sculpted wallcoverings was truly inspiring.

Our trip ended with a visit to Ojai, the idyllic town at the foot of the Topatopa Mountains (just 80 miles north of L.A.)

An invitation to Patina Farm, the incredible home of Brooke and Steve Giannetti, to celebrate the launch of their newest book “Patina Living” was the perfect excuse to venture North from LA. This sequel to their earlier publications, “Patina Style” and “Patina Farm”, illustrates how they entertain and live on their idyllic farm surrounded by their miniature goats, sheep, chickens and donkeys.

The house, gardens and outbuildings of Patina Farm are simply divine. It was the most delightful day soaking up the sun and European flair of the lovely designs. We look forward to seeing Brooke & Steve in Houston in the Fall!

The inspiration from everything we saw and experienced on our West Coast tour has had us working overtime since we returned, but we are still “California Dreamin'”!
