About Us

From an early age, Sandra Drews Lucas has shown a love and appreciation for design, beauty and order.  Over the years, she has developed a design philosophy which employs each of the principles and elements of design in her memorable, timeless and innovative interiors.  An integrated team approach and clear assessment of her client’s vision ensures the success of each project.  Sandy’s distinctive, award-winning designs have repeatedly been recognized from the East to West Coast.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from the University of Texas at Austin, Sandy moved back to her native Houston and began building a strong foundation in design working with an architectural firm specializing in hospitality.   In addition, she spent nearly fifteen years as a project designer with The Bryan Design Associates and taught Design and Drafting at the Art Institute of Houston.  In 1995, she and Sarah Eilers founded Lucas/Eilers Design Associates focusing on exceptional residential design.  Sandy’s designs integrate a responsible respect for sustainable energy and environmental concerns and have frequently won ASID Awards for Green Design.

Faith, family, and relationships are other elements that shape Sandy’s life.  Sandy and her husband, Richard, are immensely proud of their two children.  Their daughter Sarah, currently resides in Australia and son, Randall lives in Austin.  As an active member in the Houston design community, Sandy frequently volunteers her time and expertise in various philanthropic projects that benefit her hometown.  She enjoys participating in committees supporting the River Oaks Garden Club and the Theta Charity Antiques Show and has long supported The Museum of Fine Arts and Bayou Bend.   Her favorite hobbies include traveling and gardening which both bring continual inspiration to her designs.  Sandy feels blessed to have the opportunity to continue the journey and imagination of design each day.

Sandy has been a professional member of ASID, and NCIDQ since 1982, is a Registered Interior Designer in Texas and a LEED Green Associate.  She is currently serving her second term on the advisory board of University of Texas School of Architecture.

Sarah Brooks Eilers, a fifth generation Texan, grew up around gracious homes, timeless antiques, and beautiful gardens. Inspired by her southern heritage, Sarah’s design philosophy respects the past, embraces the current, and looks with vision and creativity towards the future. Her years of experience and refined eye enable Sarah to curate the best materials and sophisticated palettes, incorporating them into her award winning projects. Her designs can be best described as timeless transitional, with an eye on today’s demand for comfort and versatility. Sarah answers these client needs with projects that span from Houston’s elegant neighborhoods to vacation getaways coast to coast.

As Sarah’s love for antiques and beautiful living grew, she attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her degree in Interior Design. She spent the early years of her career at The Bryan Design Associates, where she developed a keen design aesthetic and built invaluable vendor relationships. As a founder of the award winning design firm Lucas/Eilers, Sarah embodies sound business practice, white glove service, and outstanding design. Keeping up with our ever-changing world, she exhibits an astute business acumen and timely ability to adapt to new marketing media. By enlisting new methods of social engagement and communication, Sarah is able to inspire and influence her peer group and clients in new and exciting ways.

Beyond interiors, Sarah’s most important work is taking care of her family, as a devoted wife and mother of three. Here, she finds balance between enjoying her children, actively participating in her community, and caring for her menagerie of family pets. Sarah is an active participant of the River Oaks Garden Club and asserts that a beautiful garden is an essential compliment to any interior.

Sarah’s industry affiliations include ASID. She has been a member of TAID, NCIDQ since 1985, and is a licensed Interior Designer by TBAE.
