Where does the time go?! As the summer sun begins its gradual descent, we’re preparing to bid farewell to longer days as we welcome the first whispers of Autumn’s arrival. Before we dive headfirst into the allure of the new season, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a few of the memories that made our summer days so special.

Continue reading for a look at our latest travels, tips for creating a cozy sanctuary as we transition into cooler weather (hopefully!), and a few new faces you can look forward to seeing around the Lucas/Eilers Design office!

SUMMER ADVENTURES

As you may have noticed, we love to travel. Not only because experiencing new parts of the globe brings us joy but because we always return home feeling incredibly inspired. This summer was filled with adventure and we’re sharing a a peek into our trips to Connecticut, Colorado, and Puerto Vallarta!

We’re kicking things off with a lovely look at Sandy’s trip to Colorado! A delightful escape from the Houston heat, the mountains of Colorado never disappoint. It was such fun to be with friends as we hiked in the cool fresh air.

A concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater with Lyle Lovett and his large band, playing along with the Denver Symphony Orchestra was a highlight of the trip. The majestic natural setting and the incredible acoustics make it a venue like no other.

In June, Sarah visited Phillip Johnson’s Glass House in New Canaan Connecticut, which was such a treat! Stepping into that architectural masterpiece was like stepping into a realm of pure ingenuity. The transparent walls seamlessly blend the interior and exterior, allowing nature’s beauty to be an integral part of the experience. We can’t recommend a visit enough – a must for any design enthusiast!

She also attended the most beautiful wedding and we can attest that an outdoor wedding in Connecticut is what summer dreams are made of! How beautiful is this tablescape?

July found Sarah on a Taco and Tequila tour through the colorful streets of Zona Romantica in Puerto Vallarta! Tacos and tequila are the perfect recipe for an unforgettable day of fun and flavor. It’s safe to say that this tour was a spicy, tasty, and oh-so-fun fiesta that left her craving more.

Next up in Puerto Vallarta was the  Botanical Gardens, and oh, what an inspiring sight it was. Surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant blooms, it’s difficult not to get lost in this garden’s enchanting embrace!

NESTLED IN COMFORT

As we bid adieu to summer, we find ourselves entering one of the busiest times of the year, and with it comes cooler weather and a healthy dose of holiday anxiety. What better way to prepare then to create your very own sanctuary – a haven that exudes warmth and serenity?

From soothing color palettes to soft, welcome textures, this guide is sure to transform your primary bedroom into an oasis of comfort. One of our favorite elements to weave in is a cozy reading nook and we’re even sharing a few of the books you’ll find on our bedside tables right now!

Creating a primary bedroom that feels like a sanctuary involves a thoughtful combination of design elements, decor choices, and personal touches.  We’re sharing a few tips that will help you achieve an inviting, tranquil atmosphere in any bedroom:

1. Warm Color Palette: Choose a warm and soothing color palette for your bedroom walls, bedding, and fabric. Soft neutral tones like beige, warm gray, or light taupe can create a serene backdrop. Consider adding pops of muted, calming colors like soft blues, gentle greens, or subtle blush pinks to enhance a refreshing sense of calm.

2. Comfortable Bedding: Invest in high-quality, comfortable bedding that feels luxurious to touch. Opt for soft and cozy materials like cotton or linen and layer your bed with plush pillows and a soft throw blanket.

3. Soft Lighting: Create a warm and inviting primary retreat with the use of motorized blackout drapery panels and soft, diffused lighting sources like table lamps, floor lamps, and wall sconces. Opt for warm white light and install dimmers so that you can adjust the intensity to fit your mood.

4. Cozy Seating: We love using a corner of the room to create a cozy reading nook with soft upholstered chairs, a plush ottoman and a small table where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy a cup of coffee.

If you’re looking for a comfortable place to perch, a window seat is a wonderful alternative if your primary bedroom doesn’t offer enough space for a dedicated sitting area. Can’t you just picture yourself curled up with a great book?

And speaking of cozy reading nooks, our team enjoyed some delightful reads this summer and we’re excited to be sharing a roundup with you here!
